Erie Neighborhood House is seeking a dedicated and qualified ESL / Civics Instructor to join our Adult Education and Training team as an independent contractor for the upcoming FY27 session. The ideal candidate will provide high-quality English as a Second Language (ESL) and Civics instruction to adult learners, fostering an engaging and supportive environment that promotes language acquisition and civic knowledge.
Position Responsibilities
Instruction & Lesson Management
- Curriculum Delivery: Prepare comprehensive lesson plans and deliver ESL/Civics instruction tailored to Spanish speakers, adult learners.
- Class Schedule: Conduct 3-hour classes according to assigned shifts. Classes are held Monday through Thursday during the following intervals:
- Morning Session: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
- Evening Session: 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM
- Attendance & Reliability: Maintain strict adherence to the teaching schedule. In the event of an unavoidable absence, the contractor must notify the Adult Education and Training Program Manager as soon as possible.
Administrative Compliance & Data Tracking
To ensure program compliance and facilitate prompt payment processing, the contractor is responsible for collecting, maintaining, and delivering the following program materials:
- Student Intake: Complete intake forms for every student enrolled in the assigned group(s).
- Attendance Tracking: Maintain daily student attendance sheets, ensuring student initials are collected for each day present.
- Testing & Assessment: Administer and record individual student Pre-test and Post-test score-sheets.
- Evaluations: Collect completed class evaluations from each participating student.
- Time Tracking: Submit accurate Instructor Time Sheets utilizing the format provided by Erie Neighborhood House.
Professional Development
Attend mandatory training sessions and teacher meetings as requested by the agency to further professional development.
Qualifications
- Prior experience teaching ESL and/or Civics to adult student populations.
- Strong organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to manage rigorous student compliance documentation and testing data.
- Excellent communication skills and cultural sensitivity.
- Ability to commit fully to the session dates (07/6/2026 – 12/10/2026) and the designated Monday–Thursday class times.
